On October 3rd as part of the Westbury Festival, we ran a 'Divine Poetry' evening. A good number came in to hear poems and hymns from Bible times through to the 20th century being read and sung. Each had a brief introduction explaining the pieces or the authors’ lives. A scratch choir of 14 was formed from several churches in the area; they performed four hymns which were sung to the evident appreciation of those listening. One was sung a Capella and some of the audience joined in, we also had a violin accompaniment to the last one. A good chat over tea and biscuits followed. It was good to be able to be part of the Festival and join in with the community in this way. Thanks to all who took part, organising, singing or reading, especially our friends from local churches who came and joined in the choir.
