Summer just about manages to seep into September. But by the end of the month, autumn will be upon us. The golden corn will have been harvested. The green leaves that have adorned the trees since Spring time will have turned red, then brown before falling to the ground, dead and withered. The evening light will fail as the darkness of Winter hastens on.
The bright new hopes of Spring are all too soon dashed against the barren emptiness of Winter. People often set off in life full of hope, only to end up cynical and bitter as life takes its toll. Where can we find a hope that lasts and that will not let us down?
The Christian message offers us hope. This is what the word of God says:
"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and go and pray to me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek me and find me, when you search for me with all your heart." (Jeremiah 29:11-13.)
This hope is based upon what God has done for us. He has sent his Son, Jesus Christ to die for all the wrong things that we have done. Because Jesus died on the cross we can be forgiven and have a new start in life. It can be spring again. Jesus rose again from the dead to give us the hope of everlasting life. If you trust in Jesus, you need not fear the chill winds of death and the grave.
God offers you a future and a hope in Jesus Christ. Time is passing, the seasons pass by so quickly. Seek the Lord urgently with all your heart and you will surely find him.
